Teeth Are Not for Biting (Board Book) (Best Behavior Series)

Teeth Are Not for Biting (Board Book) (Best Behavior Series)

“Crunch crunch crunch. Teeth are strong and sharp. Crunch crunch crunch. Teeth can help you chew. But teeth are not for biting. Ouch! Biting hurts.” Sooner or later, almost all young children will bite someone—a friend, a parent, a sibling. This upbeat, colorful, virtually indestructible book helps prevent biting and teaches positive alternatives.

The companion to our best-selling Hands Are Not for Hitting Board Book, Teeth Are Not for Biting gives reasons why children might want to bite. Little mouths feel sore when new teeth come in; sometimes kids bite when they’re hungry, tired, cranky, frustrated, angry, bored, distressed, or seeking attention. Author Elizabeth Verdick suggests positive things children can do instead of biting: chew a chewy toy, drink a cold drink, get a hug, tell a grown-up. This book also includes helpful tips for parents and caregivers.

Pudding's update [26Nov07]

Pudding's update [26Nov07]

It might not look like it here, but Pudding was busy attempting to scuttle off the pillow. Had to pick him up and put him back to the centre to prevent him from being too adventurous for his frail little body.

He's still alive!

Being pure-o OCD, and him being the most worrying thing in my life currently, I think about his condition a lot. After much googling, and finally a chat with my friend who's going to graduate with a vet science degree in a couple of weeks, I think his "heart attack/stroke" thingys he has been having is probably seizures instead!

Oops, I guess I did not describe the episodes throughly enough to the vet the first time we dropped by. Mm, but so many things happened the night before that visit, that if I had went into detail everything that had happened, our consultation would have taken forever. He seemed so deathly ill then, and very dehydrated (he refused to eat and drink) that all he got was a salt and glucose jab.

Then there were so many theories too. Was it because of old age? Some complications from the snipping of his overgrown teeth? Shock, from the sounds the mole made on Animal Planet? I threw so many ideas at the vet (oops, again my OCD thing), that I guess it was hard to answer, since I try to 'sell' each theory hard (all equally convincing and confusing to me).

At this point though, the one I'm buying the most is that it's seizures due to hypoglycemia (deficiency of glucose). Because of his overgrown teeth, Pudding couldn't eat on his own the few days before his first seizure, resulting in the low blood sugar? General weakness resulted as a consequence of the seizures, and possible brain damage too? Because he continued to not be able to eat and drink on his own, he relied more or less solely on what i syringe feed him baby formulae and multivitamins.

His seizures stopped since the first visit to the vet, until Thursday arrived. The only thing that changed was the multivitamin solution. I had just gotten a new bottle from a pet shop. Upon the conversation with my friend, I realised that glucose or any form of sugar is not among the list of ingredients in this, unlike the previous Marukan one I had been feeding him all these days.

Well, seizures could be caused by other things (which require a blood test to know exactly what), than just hypoglycemia. So in hope for the best, on Friday night after the chat, I decided to switch him back to the previous multivitamin solution that actually contains glucose.

Pudding didn't have a seizure these two days! Meep, I really hope it's just hypoglycemia. But then again, it does not really explain his fur loss. Argh. Back to the vet with more questions on Tuesday...

[Andora is still intensely jealous. Haha, she made so much noise knocking over her green toy when I fetched the camera and photographed Pudding instead of her. ;)]

In deep thought.....

In deep thought.....

September 29 was this guy's birthday...........he is my son. He is a very good son. He loves his Mama...checks on me all the time.

We talk every single day....I am very lucky.

He no longer has the facial hair.....if not for work, I am sure he would.

The stories I could tell about him when he was little.......would curl your hair.

When he was in sixth grade......it was parent visitation day. The school had prepared for this special day with refreshments for the parents. Each student had their school work displayed on their own desk and around their own classroom.

I can remember when we stopped by our daughter's third grade class first.....she was so excited to see us. We looked at all of her papers, visited a while and told her we had to go visit her brother. Hugged her and off we headed down the hall headed for sixth grade.

When we walked into his sixth grade room.....we saw lots of other parents we knew....all standing over their own child's desk being shown their work. I remember feeling so puzzled as to where our son could be, as we did not see him.

When the teacher obviously saw us looking for him......he said to us "oh I see he hasn't let you know where he has spent the last few weeks"......then...........all of a sudden, we see a head pop out of the "closet" with a big grin on his face to say "oh hi Mom and Dad......I guess I forgot to tell you I have to live in the closet because they laugh at me too much".....

I guess he had to move his entire desk and work "in the closet" so the teacher could get the students to pay attention to the "teacher" and not to my son. I guess the teacher called it "disrupting the class"....

All of this happened....yes, in front of all of the other parents.....most of whom we knew. Needless to say...it was a day we each both still talk about and will remember forever !!

This guy...looking oh so serious here.....was also named "Class Clown" his senior year of high school. I can remember when he was a baby....my Mother used to always say "Lisa....you laugh at every single thing that baby does.....one day you will regret it"....

Well guess what....I'm very proud of my "Class Clown"......he brings a lot of joy to a lot of strangers he meets each and every single day.

The best thing a Mother can hear "what good kids you have".....

If you go out and encounter a young person who "has good manners, holds the door for you, smiles at you and treats you as if you are one very special person....who is genuine in caring".........make sure you tell their Mama, if you know her.

Trust me.........you will make her day.
